Dude! … You’re broke, but you’re also an enhanced human being.
I love this quote from my friend Dan in a recent email. My SingFling is winding down. I will manage to squeeze in a few more adventures (CHINA!), and more than a few necessary blog posts…stay tuned.

The weather here is unseasonably cool (read: so nice) this week. TODAY (Singapore paper) reports “uncommon strong winds in Singapore.” The story opens, “One person said it has become so difficult to play tennis, while another is putting off plans to go on a picnic.”
Last night, I joined my coworkers at the Singapore Cricket Club. We ate on the patio and enjoyed the bright lights of Singapore’s evening skyline. It felt like those perfectly warm spring NYC nights, when everyone dines outside night after night…after night.

Even if it’s fake snow in 80 degree weather….how funny is this? From the Christmas festival at the mall next to our office.

Camilla is one of the highlights of my work day. She sits in front of me, wearing fingerless gloves to fight the S’pore aircon. She’s also a freelance writer for a few papers, including the Jakarta Post. Because of this, she’s able to meet all sorts of musicians and artists.
One day, she came back to the office (from what I thought was lunch) and casually said, “Oh, btw, I just met Kanye.” Me, in my ever-so-American way said, “Whhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttt?”
Here’s her review of Kylie in S’pore. (Her Kanye review was in Indonesian…)

It’s a joke with my family that when I return home to St Louis and head to Plaza Frontenac (made famous by Nelly in “Ride Wit Me”…or at least, so I’d like to think) that they say, “she’s returned to the mothership.”
Being a Midwesterner, I love malls. They remind me of high school — afternoons spent trolling not for dudes, but duds. Wearing a uniform in high school contributed to my love and perfected my skill of shopping.
In Singapore, it’s a whole other story.
There are 70 some malls. There’s a mall for electronics. There’s one for kids. There’s one for luxe goods. There’s even one for beauty/treatments.
It’s overwhelming – even for an expert. Needless to say, there’s nothing that I need…
