I learned a new Singlish word today: Shiok.
I also had Yami yogurt today. Shiok!
Shiok (adj)
Pronounced ’shee-oak’
Derived from the Malay language (Straits Chinese) meaning fantastic or marvellous.
Example: That prawn mee soup was shiok!

It’s a joke with my family that when I return home to St Louis and head to Plaza Frontenac (made famous by Nelly in “Ride Wit Me”…or at least, so I’d like to think) that they say, “she’s returned to the mothership.”
Being a Midwesterner, I love malls. They remind me of high school — afternoons spent trolling not for dudes, but duds. Wearing a uniform in high school contributed to my love and perfected my skill of shopping.
In Singapore, it’s a whole other story.
There are 70 some malls. There’s a mall for electronics. There’s one for kids. There’s one for luxe goods. There’s even one for beauty/treatments.
It’s overwhelming – even for an expert. Needless to say, there’s nothing that I need…
